Note for first time patients: you may wish to see your GP before booking a first time consultation with a psychologist, as your GP may be able to prepare a Mental Health Care Plan which will entitle you to a Medicare rebate for some of your psychology consultations. You should see your regular GP for this.

If you don't have a regular GP, the GPs at North Brighton Medical are more than happy for you to begin seeing them as your regular GP. However, our GPs cannot prepare a Mental Health Care Plan for new patients in their initial consultation. Instead, you can book a mental health consultation as your initial appointment, during which you can begin to discuss your mental health concerns. Following this, if appropriate, your GP will suggest you book a follow-up consultation with them so that they can prepare a Mental Health Care Plan for you.

If you don't have a Mental Health Care Plan, you can still see a psychologist but you won’t be entitled to a Medicare rebate. You may be able to obtain a private health rebate for some of your psychology consultations if you have extras cover. Contact your private health insurer for details.
