NORTH BRIGHTON MEDICAL IS yellow fever accredited

All of the doctors working from our Brighton medical centre are highly trained and experienced in providing advice on health issues associated with travel, including which vaccines should be administered before you travel to different parts of the world.

We are able to administer the vaccines you may require for your safe travels, and assist you with the prevention and treatment of various travel-related illnesses.

We have many of the most commonly needed vaccines in stock at our clinic available for purchase (subject to availability from our supplier). This includes vaccines for Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B.

We can also ensure you and your children are up to date with your childhood vaccinations and the annual flu vaccine. Many people may need a measles booster vaccine, as many people born between 1966 and 1994 may have only received one dose of measles vaccine in childhood and therefore may not have proper immunity. In addition, an early measles vaccine is now free for infants aged 6 to 12 months travelling to measles affected areas.

For less common vaccines (such as Rabies or Japanese Encephalitis), we can provide you with a prescription for the vaccine, which you can take to a pharmacy to fill before you return to our clinic for the vaccine to be administered. We can also give you a prescription for anti-malaria tablets and the cholera vaccine (which is taken orally).

We recommend you see a GP six to twelve weeks before you travel, as most vaccines take several weeks to take effect, and some need more than one dose. Even if you have already been vaccinated against certain diseases, you should still check with your GP, as your immunity to some diseases may have changed or reduced with time, so you may need a booster.

Please bring a copy of your immunisation history with you to your appointment, unless you are sure that we have the details already or it is fully available on your Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) history. If you think there are immunusations missing from your AIR history, you may need to request that the previous immunisation provider adds the immunisations to AIR, or that they provide you with records so we can add the immunisations to AIR.

See this government website for information about immunisations for travel, or book a “Travel Medicine” appointment to discuss with a GP.
